Mahua Butter is obtained from the fruit of the Indian Butternut Tree, scientifically known as Madhuca longifolia. The tree is indigenous to regions of Central and Nothern India, and also found in some forests of Southern India. Mahua Butter is extracted from the seeds of the Buttercup tree fruit. It is soothing on the skin due to it’s emollient properties and a key ingredient to the process of enfleurage.

The nourishing Butter is extracted from the seed kernels of the Mahua and is known in Ayurveda as a good emollient as it is a rich source of healthy fat. In fact, the Mahua fruit, flowers, bark and seeds have been used traditionally in India to make wine, jams, oils and herbal medicinal powders for their nutritive properties, applied on the skin to treat and prevent various concerns, and also used to prepare perfumes as a part of the intricate enfleurage process.
