The roots of the Arrowroot plant are processed to obtain an edible starch powder that is known to have a cooling effect when taken as food or applied topically. Its cooling properties allow it to soothe irritation and inflammation.

As per Ayurveda, the Arrowroot plant was and remains a renowned treatment to heal wounds and an antidote to toxins. Arrowroot powder is also renowned for its ability to absorb excessive oil or sebum production in the skin and also for clarifying the skin’s complexion.

To prepare the powder, the stem of the plant is washed, drained, and de-scaled so as to obtain a fresh juicy pulp. This pulp is a milky white liquid, which is strained thoroughly in order to separate the starch from the rest of the plant components. The starch settled at the bottom is then sun-dried over several days to form a flour-like, sheer white powder.
